Nestlé Go Free Rice Pops have been discontinued following changes to their production which means they are no longer able to make the product!
When we talked to Nestlé Service Consumer people they acknowledged that this decision will come as a disappointment to many of their customers but they were keen to promote the other Gluten Free products still available to the Coeliac/GF Community!
That’s all very well but, apart from enjoying the Rice Pops as a breakfast cereal, my wife used them when baking tray bakes and none of their other products are suitable!
I know there are other similar products on the Market from other companies but I’m told that the Nestlé version was the best for traybakes and who am I to argue?
All very annoying! 🙁
Cobbs are a truly Scottish, family operated business located in the picturesque village of Drumnadrochit, by the banks of beautiful Loch Ness and their delicious cakes (including Gluten Free) are available across the Island of Ireland as well as in Scotland.
Their products are authentically hand made using only the very best of ingredients and, with no preservatives added, remain true to their traditional home baking recipes and roots.
With a proud passion to produce Gluten Free products that look and taste every bit as good as their traditional recipes they have an entirely separate team of bakers dedicated to the production of fabulous options from their Gluten Free kitchen.
Ask for Cobbs Cakes in your favourite café and enjoy!
Potato starch is the extracted starch from potatoes. The starch turns to a light, powdery, flour-like consistency once it has dried out, and it is a common ingredient that features in several recipes.
Potato starch is made by crushing raw potatoes which separates out the starch grains from the cells. The starch is then cleaned and left to dry. Once dry, the potato starch forms a white, powdery, flour-like consistency.
Potato starch is gluten-free, meaning it can work effectively as a gluten-free plain flour alternative in some recipes!
One of our amazing Sponsors, Meade Farm, makes Potato Starch in Co Meath and you can see some Potato Starch recipes on the Meade Farm website here:
This Petition was launched on the 24th April 2026 and, under the Government rules, requires a Government response if signed by 10,000 or more people.
As it has been signed by over 14,000 people the Government has responded saying “they believe the current framework, supported by guidance and enforcement, provides proportionate protection, and has no plans to mandate coeliac training for catering staff.”
The Petition is open for signing until the 24th October 2026 so there is still plenty of time to sign and, if it reaches 100,000 signatories, it will be debated in the UK Parliament.
We have seen this question raised by Coeliacs on a number of occasions, especially as we move into the warmer Summer months.
Fear not – research has shown that people with Coeliac Disease cannot get sick just from touching gluten. This includes those with the Gluten rash called Dermatitis Herpetiformis.
Experts agree that the gluten protein is too large to be absorbed through the skin so, in order to sicken someone with Coeliac Disease, the gluten must be ingested or otherwise get into the bloodstream (say, through a large open wound).
Unless you are consuming lotions or shampoos (and that’s unlikely) those with Coeliac Disease should be safe to use Gluten-containing hygiene products.
Products which may be a cause for concern are those that go on, around, or in the mouth, such as toothpaste and lip products. There may even be concerns around certain products such as hand soaps, which may leave gluten on the hands that can then be ingested when eating foods with hands.
(Finally, if you do react to hygiene products like lotions or makeup, you may have a separate sensitivity, such as allergic contact dermatitis or a fragrance sensitivity.)

In the UK and Ireland it is recognised that Gluten is found in Wheat, Barley and Rye whereas in the US only Wheat is mentioned.
However, on the 28th May 2026 The Celiac Safety Act was introduced in Congress and, if passed, this bill would expand the list of major food allergens to cover all gluten-containing grains, not just wheat, requiring clear labelling on all food products that contain these grains.
The United States is the only one of the developed nations where this gap exists. Australia, New Zealand, Canada, the United Kingdom, and all 27 member states of the European Union already require manufacturers to list gluten (from whatever source) as a major allergen.
This bill would finally bring the United States in line with the rest of the world and would be transformative for the roughly three million Americans living with Celiac disease!
